A total of 16 list spots across 11 AFL clubs could be opened ahead of next month's Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Half-a-dozen clubs might make multiple selections, with Adelaide, Carlton, Gold Coast, North Melbourne and Richmond all potentially having access to two players through the draft due to either long-term injuries or carryover spots from the pre-season.

12 players across the competition won't play again this season, giving their respective clubs flexibility for the Mid-Season Draft, while the retirements of Angus Brayshaw and Nathan Murphy will do similar for Melbourne and Collingwood.

Crows pair Patrick Parnell and Wayne Milera give Adelaide the option to open up two list spots, while Carlton (Sam Docherty and Jack Silvagni), North Melbourne (Callum Coleman-Jones and Josh Goater) and Richmond (Josh Gibcus and Judson Clarke) are in a similar position.

Brisbane could double their vacant list spots should Tom Doedee's recent knee injury rule him out for the rest of the season, with the Lions already without Keidean Coleman due to his own unfortunate ACL setback.

Essendon and the Western Bulldogs were among the clubs to decide against adding to their list during the Supplemental Selection Period, with Jaiden Hunter and Bailey Smith both suffering ACL injuries over the summer that could've allowed either club to get active ahead of the season's start.

Gold Coast and Fremantle still have one list spot free each for the Mid-Season Draft having initially passed at last year's Rookie Draft as well as going against signing SSP trialists.

Geelong, GWS, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Sydney and West Coast all do not have currently list spots open or players likely to be moved to the inactive list.

A total of 15 list spots were open for last year's mid-year intake, with 13 selections made after GWS passed on both of their choices. The year prior had 23 spots and 17 selections, while 2022 had 27 and 22 respectively.
