Sydney run-with player James Jordon has taken another massive scalp on Sunday, curbing the influence of Fremantle star and Brownlow fancy Caleb Serong at the SCG.

The Swans were in desperate need to keep their season alive, and the 11-point victory over the Dockers continued the hunt for a top-eight spot come September.

The result was largely due to the efforts of Jordon, who was sent to Serong in a negating capacity. The former Demon kept the prime mover to a measly 11 possessions, his lowest tally since 2020 (shortened quarters).

"He was unbelievable. I think that's how highly we rate Serong, is for Jordon to be able to go to him," Cox said.

"To keep him to 11 touches is an unbelievable effort. I think the footy club can't speak highly enough of what James does.

"He spends time looking at his opponent, coming up with a plan. He has the mental aptitude to be able to sustain and hold on. He's a massive part of helping our team play well."

For Jordon himself, he kicked two goals and collected nine touches, six tackles and three clearances, ultimately winning the battle between the two.

The "unbelievable effort" comes as the 24-year-old has already taken down the likes of Lachie Neale, Serong this year, while Jordan Dawson, Zach Merrett, Lachie Whitfield and Sam Walsh.

Jordon has also done roles on defenders Jordan Clark and Tom Stewart, and has subsequently been given the nickname 'Padlock' for his ability to hinder his direct opponent.

"I felt like over the last 18 months I've developed that defensive role, but something I've been working on is going the other way, I'm trying to have that impact offensively," Jordon said earlier in the year.

"'Coxy' usually comes to me during the week (with his tagging assignment for the round), and 'Horse' did last year.

"I'm a pretty competitive person, and I enjoy playing on the best player most weeks. It's a great challenge for me and making me better as a footballer as well."

Jordon may have his hands full next weekend against St Kilda, with Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera a likely target.
