Sydney veteran Harry Cunningham is in doubt to face Fremantle in Friday's preliminary final at the SCG after hurting his calf earlier in the week.
If Cunningham fails to be cleared to play, Lewis Melican looms as his replacement.
"At the minute we're waiting on Harry Cunningham," Swans coach Dean Cox said.
"See how he pulls up today. We'll get through today and have a discussion about what the best team looks like and go from there.
“Things fell pretty quickly last night (with Cunningham), and it's just an opportunity.
“Lewis has had some form, played some footy and expect he's going to be right in the mix.”
Cox confirmed Justin McInerney will make his return, replacing captain Callum Mills, but said key forward Joel Amartey won't take on the Dockers.
McInerney will return after a long layoff from a hamstring injury.
Amartey has recovered from an achilles injury, but given the strong form of Sydney's forward mix, especially Charlie Curnow, Logan McDonald and Hayden McLean, there was no room.
“Justin will play and Joel won't. That's just the decision we had to make,” Cox added.
“We need to acknowledge that the players that played in that forward line group, whether they be tall or small, played their role as well as we needed them to.
“The decision was, ‘do we have to turn that around and change it' or ‘do we just go in with what worked?', and that's what we're going to do.
“With Justin, he's had a lot of work put in throughout this period of time. It's a matter of now backing him in.”
