Swans coach John Longmire has advocated for bringing the Gather Round to New South Wales after its tenure in South Australia.
Following the success of Gather Round in SA, which amassed 204,335 fans in attendance, Longmire believes the event could be used to grow the game in NSW and Queensland.
"It was obviously a success for the game, the crowds over there were huge, the buzz of the city was enormous," he said on Tuesday.
"Adelaide and South Australia itself did a great job of putting it on, and really got behind it. There's no question it would be good for any city.
"If you're looking at numbers of the game alone, we may not be able to match that. But there's a bigger picture to it."
During Gather Round's final day, AFL CEO Gil McLachlan and SA Premier Peter Malinauskas announced a deal to ensure the nine-game weekend would stay in Adelaide for three more years.
For a non-footy state like NSW, the event's atmosphere could be vital to the growth of the game.
"If you step back, it's not just about sellout crowds," Longmire continued.
"That's an important part of it, but if you're able to get part of a day-to-day discussion up here in Sydney or Queensland — we saw what happened during the Shutdown up in Queensland, the game really took off.
"(It's) certainly not going to happen for the next three years — but (something) like that would be great for the game.
"Not just going to the game, but talking about the game, infrastructure requirements and those types of things would be really important."
Sydney is one of five states with multiple AFL venues, including the historical SCG and the newly built GIANTS Stadium.
