Richmond 14.7 (91) def. Essendon 10.14 (74)

A strong third quarter led Richmond to a 17-point win over Essendon. Anthony Miles (29 disposals and a goal) impressed for the Tigers, as did Ben Lennon (three goals).

Despite the loss, both Ben Howlett (35 disposals and two goals), and Alex Boyse (five goals) were good for the Bombers.

Footscray 19.24 (138) def. Sandringham 5.9 (39)

Inaccuracy from Footscray saved Sandringham from further embarrassment, with the Zebras losing by 99 points. The Bulldogs kicked an amazing 24 behinds in the blowout. Mitch Honeychurch was excellent in the win, he had 31 disposals, and kicked 3.5, while Toby McLean (38 touches and a goal), and Travis Cloke (10 marks and two goals) also played well.

In what was a sombre day for Sandringham, Jack Lonie was excellent. He had 30 disposals and booted two goals.
