This year, Geelong added the likes of Gary Rohan and Gryan Miers to their side, boosting their speed across the forward line and effectively altering the dynamics of their game. These two additions to the squad have seen Geelong's performance improve immensely when you compare their current form to this time last year.
Two-time North Melbourne premiership player David King believes this difference is the result of Geelong having fully developed their brand.
“Chris (Scott) hates me saying this, but I don’t think they really had a brand the last few years, Geelong,” King told SEN’s Whateley.
“They took away what the opposition wanted to do consistently and they chopped and changed fractionally through the course of the year.
“Every six or seven weeks they tweaked something and changed the way they played and they get to a finals series and they don’t really have an identity of who they are.
“I think Geelong has got this brand now that is covered and enhanced by speed and that forward line, speed corrects all ills, it does. You can defensively still be involved, you can shake a man on offense, you can break into space, you can right a few wrongs with speed.
“They’ve got serious speed now. No Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield for pretty much only a half, to win like that just shows that everyone is on the same page at Geelong.”
The Cats enjoyed their sixth victory for the season after comfortably beating Essendon by 32-points over the weekend. They look for their seventh win this week, as they travel to Marvel Stadium where they will face North Melbourne on Sunday afternoon.
