Tom Scully has suggested that his side was lucky to get two points out of Saturday night's contest against the Cats.

Tom Hawkins missed a set-shot after the siren which would have won the game for Geelong, and thus the game ended as a draw. It was the first draw of the 2017 season.

Despite an impressive final quarter, Giants midfielder Scully believes Geelong deserved to win the game due to their aggression throughout the first three quarters.

"Geelong outplayed us for most of the night but you can look at it two ways, two points is better than none, but realistically it was too little too late," he explained.

The Cats led at half-time and three-quarter time, but couldn't get over the line.

"They're probably disappointed they didn't get the four points but we'll take two," Scully said.

"We've been able to get more wins than losses in the tight ones this year, which is pleasing, but ideally we don't want to be in those positions."

GWS coach Leon Cameron also seemed to express relief in his post-match press conference, stating, "I suppose it's two points. They were the better team."

The result means that both teams retain their places on the ladder, with the Ginats first and the Cats in third. They will face each other again in the final round of the home and away season. That contest could decide who earns home ground advantage in the top four, and will no doubt be another tightly contested game.
