Tim Watson went on SEN Breakfast this morning and pronounced that he’d been told: “that Scott Burns will be the next coach of Adelaide.”

The markets have reacted, and Burns is now the odds-on favourite to become the top dog in the city of churches. That’s despite the four-person panel charged with selecting Don Pyke’s successor having not yet convened.

Another SEN presenter, Andy Maher, has also said that you can “lock it in” that Burns will be in the box in Adelaide next year.

This conjecture seems likely, considering the other favourite, Essendon’s Ben Rutten has pulled out of the running to stay in Melbourne.

Burns, who played 256 games for Collingwood in the 90’s, has been an assistant coach for the Pies, Eagles and Hawks.  In 2011 he was apparently positioned to take over at the Crows before the club settled on Brenton Sanderson.
