North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says the Kangaroos will be "really aggressive" during the upcoming trade period as the club have room to move in their salary cap.

The statement comes on the back of a report on Tuesday which suggested the Roos would place an offer in front of Richmond superstar Dustin Martin for over $1million a season.

Add that to the well known nine-year deal that is on GWS midfielder Josh Kelly's desk, and North Melbourne are currently right in the mix for two of the game's best players out-of-contract at season's end.

โ€œWeโ€™re always looking to improve,โ€ Scott told Fox Footyโ€™s AFL 360 on Tuesday night.

โ€œWeโ€™ve been very clear on our strategy going forward and we identify a lot of players that may help us and we identify where we want to position ourselves in the draft.

โ€œWeโ€™ve made no secret we want to be really aggressive and bold in our approach to our list management.

โ€œI think for any North Melbourne supporter, thatโ€™s got to be really pleasing and really encouraging.

โ€œWhile itโ€™s fantastic to see the young players out there performing at the moment, I think itโ€™s equally exciting as to the position the club is in to acquire some potential talent from other clubs.โ€

Scott was also asked about his club's interest in Martin and Kelly, but the coach wasn't willing to give much away.

โ€œItโ€™s a complete hypothetical,โ€ Scott said.

โ€œI understand the speculation and the interest in it, but I think itโ€™s a little unsavoury for us to be talking directly about players who are contracted to other clubs right at the moment.

โ€œWe canโ€™t control the speculation in the media, but we respect and understand the interest in it.

โ€œBut Iโ€™m not going to provide a running commentary on players who are currently contracted to other clubs.โ€
