Digby Beacham, leading West Australian sports journalist, says that West Coast have been successful in reining in Eagle wunderkind Harley Reid as he deals with immense attention from the opposition.

Beacham said Eagles coach Andrew McQualter has a "tighter rein" on Reid compared to the guidance of Adam Simpson.

"Unfortunately I think he was given too much of a leg rope by Adam Simpson, in his first year. He was seemingly allowed to do what he wanted to do. That's not the case at the moment," Beacham said on Zero Hanger's The Outer Wing (brought to you by TABtouch).

"Harley has to be better, he can't put his own interests ahead of the team's."

Beacham was joined by Mark Stevens to discuss West Coast's upcoming game against Fremantle, and how veteran Elliot Yeo will impact Reid's

"It's a tough assignment," Beacham said. "They're [West Coast] facing cross-town rival who is sitting second on the ladder with a four game winning streak."

"When Elliot Yeo is available and playing, you see the best side of Harley Reid.

"Elliot will be able to guide him through patches in the game where he gets that white line fever."

Following a poor performance in a recent game against Sydney, Reid will surely be looking for opportunities to make it back into fans' good books.

This tight rein and more guidance from his coach may be exactly what he needs now.

"He's still a young man finding his way," Beacham said

"He's competitive, he's combative and he cares, so that's a good thing."
