Scans have confirmed GWS defender Adam Kennedy will miss the remainder of the AFL season after suffering a ruptured ACL in his side's loss to St Kilda on Friday night.

The incident happened in the first quarter of the clash, and scans confirmed the Giants' worst fears on Saturday morning.

“This is devastating news for Adam who’d started the season very strongly. GWS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce told the club's website.

“We’re confident that Adam will approach his rehabilitation with the same diligence and energy that he does every other aspect of his football.

“He’s a really popular member of the playing group and the whole club is right behind him.”

In another injury blow for the Giants, midfielder Jacob Hopper has been ruled out for an extended period after suffering a broken finger on Friday night.

The 20-year-old will go under the knife in the next few days, and the Giants will confirm his recovery period following the operation.
