Herald Sun journalist Mark Robinson has revealed his top 50 players of the decade, with Hawthorn and Sydney forward Lance Franklin at the top of the list.
Robinson says "there's never been a player like Lance Franklin in the history of Australian rules," and went on to list his achievements as reasons for why he was the best player over the past 10 years.
Franklin won one premiership, featured in seven All-Australian sides (and captained the team once) and won three Coleman Medals over the course of the decade, which are numbers unmatched across the competition.
Wayne Carey weighed in on Robinson's decision, and said it would be hard to argue against Franklin as the best player of the 2010s.
โHe would be hard to beat. There would be him and Gary Ablett,โโ Carey told the Herald Sun.
โI donโt think youโd get an argument from the majority of people. Heโs been a consistently brilliant player.
โHe doesnโt necessarily play like a key forward.
โHeโs a very different type of player for his size.โโ
Gary Ablett comes in at number two, while Dustin Martin rounds out the top three.
Robinson's only criteria was that the individual had to play 100 games to qualify.
