Adelaide are said to have "put a huge offer on the table" for Melbourne swingman Harrison Petty as they look to potentially secure a Demons player in trade talks that would see Shane McAdam join the red and blue.
McAdam has requested a trade to the Demons for this trade period despite the reluctance of the Crows, who are now willing to part with the 28-year-old for the right price.
Adelaide would like to add to their list rather than their draft hand, given they already hold Picks 10, 20, 23 and 26 for next month's count.
List manager Justin Reid said while the club is satisfied with its suite of selections, bringing in a player is a focus instead of continuing to add selections to their hand.
"Ideally, we'd like to go back to the old days and do player-for-player (deals)," Reid said at Monday's trade period launch.
"We'd like to bring a player into the club. We've got four really good picks, but the picks don't really help us at the moment. We'll work through that.
"It depends if Melbourne are willing to participate. When they're contracted it's a little bit harder."
Melbourne are home to several contracted players from South Australia, with Petty joined by small forward Kade Chandler, utility Alex Neal-Bullen and midfielder Tom Sparrow, all of whom might be of some interest to Reid and Adelaide.
When asked about potential interest in Petty amid discussions with the Demons for McAdam, Reid played a straight bat.
"Respectfully, he's a contracted player," he said.
"We understand his desire to get home at some stage, but he's got another two more years (remaining on his contract).
"It is what it is."
According toย 9 Newsย Adelaide,ย the Crows have put a sizeable offer on the table as they look to pry the 23-year-old out of Victoria and bring him back to his home state.
The Demons are "desperate to keep" the defender-turned-forward, but the Crows are equally keen to have Petty involved in a player-player trade that would likely include draft selections also.
"It would take something pretty special, but the Crows are still desperate to get Harry Petty home,"
"9 Newsย understands Adelaide have put a huge offer on the table for the Demons forward, who would love a return to South Australia at some point.
"Melbourne is desperate to keep him. Adelaide will ask for Petty in a deal for Shane McAdam, who we know has requested a trade to the Demons."
The Crows could bundle up some of their draft selections and make a move for Pick 11, which is currently owned by the Suns and is likely on the trade table as Gold Coast look to split early selections for more draft points.
That first-round selection could please the Demons as part of a McAdam-Petty deal.
