Richmond has announced Dylan Grimes and Toby Nankervis as the club's co-captains for the 2023 season.

The pair skippered the Tigers as a collective for the first time last season, leading the Punt Roaders to a seventh placed finish and a first-week finals exit.

Richmond announced on Thursday morning that Grimes and Nankervis had been granted the chance to lead on after being endorsed by their peers and the wider football department.

While opposed positionally and vertically, the defender and ruckman formed the new face of the club, one that Richmond's General Manager-Football Performance Tim Livingstone was quick to praise.

"Dylan and Toby led our group and broader organisation wonderfully in 2022, complementing each other while also leading as individuals terrifically well,” Livingstone said within a club statement.

"We are looking forward to seeing them continue to grow with the role this upcoming season and are delighted that the group has endorsed them for another year.

“Together they are great drivers of our culture and values and excellent contributors on and off the field. It will be exciting to see what these young men can help us achieve in 2023 and beyond."

During his first season as skipper, Nankervis featured in each of the Tigers' 23 fixtures, averaging 27.3 hitouts and 4 clearances each week.

Behind the ball, Grimes racked up his 200th AFL appearance in Round 13, also featuring 15 times and remaining a rock in defence.

Richmond will face off against North Melbourne (Arden Street) and Melbourne (Casey Fields) in their pair of practice matches before doing battle with Carlton in Round 1.
