Collingwood are one of the biggest suitors for off-contract Gold Coast skipper Tom Lynch, and they are trying to lure fellow co-captain Steven May at the end of the season as well, according to a report by the Herald Sun.

Along with Richmond and Hawthorn, the Pies are considered the front-runners to land Lynch at season's end, amid news that the star forward will undergo season-ending knee surgery for a PCL injury.

And it doesn't stop there for Collingwood, who are now looking to bring May, a Melbourne Grammar product, over as well, who would shape as a perfect replacement for veteran fullback Lynden Dunn.

May has links to Collingwood's list manager Ned Guy, who previously worked for the backman's management McDonald Sports.

The gun defender is contracted at the Suns next year, therefore he would need to be released from his contract by the struggling club, but he does qualify for free agency at the end of the 2019 season.

The Pies are tied up in salary, but in the event that out-of-contract stars Darcy Moore or Jamie Elliott sign elsewhere, it could open the door for the club to sign one of the Suns co-captains, while both would be a stretch.

Hawthorn made an unsuccessful play for May last year who has shown immense loyalty to the Suns, but the potential departure of Lynch could change his thinking.
