Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has reflected on the recent decline in form for his side after a disappointing 36-point loss to Collingwood on Sunday.

The loss is Freo's second consecutive defeat, after going down by the same margin to Gold Coast in Round 9 in what was a disappointing result for the ambitious Dockers.

Speaking to the media after the loss, Longmuir admits the side may have gotten ahead of themselves after an impressive start to the season, with the loss to the Pies acting as a real reality check to realise their mistakes and get back to their best.

"It probably gives us a reality check to be honest," Longmuir said.

"We were riding high and everyone was getting way ahead of themselves, and if you get way ahead of yourself in footy, you don’t even need to get way ahead, you get marginally ahead of yourself in footy, it gives you a reality check and we’ve gotten that.

"When you’re sitting closer to the top, teams come and bring their best and if you’re off in any part you get what you deserve."

The loss to Collingwood only furthers the damage of the disappointing loss to the Suns the week before, which was a game the previously in-form Freo were expected to win. The Dockers only managed to kick four goals the entire game against the Suns, with that loss ending their previous streak of seven consecutive wins.

Freo also only managed six majors against Collingwood, with poor execution labelled as one of the reasons behind the team's recent decline in form.

Fremantle travel to the MCG to face raining premiers Melbourne next week, which could look to extend the Dockers' poor run of form to three consecutive losses.

However, Longmuir remains adamant the squad is up for the challenge and feels it's a good opportunity to learn from their mistakes and get back into form.

"We’re looking forward to the challenge," he said.

"We’ll need to have a deeper look at this one first and learn from it then we’ll move on when the time is right."

Despite the loss, Fremantle came through the Collingwood match unscathed and will have the same squad available to travel to Melbourne, while skipper Nat Fyfe may also be in line to return for his first math of the year.
