Collingwood has been the indisputable king of the close finish since Craig McRae took the helm in 2022 and Jamie Elliott has been the poster-boy of the trademark moments. For a generation he has delivered a burgeoning package of memorable moments, standing up when it matters most. The Magpies overturned a 13-point three-quarter-time deficit to storm over the top of the strong Cats by six points. Elliott levelled the scores with just over seven minutes to go. There were four players inside Collingwood's forward 50 when Andrew Krakouer sent it in: Elliott and three Cats. The fresh-faced small forward turned around his direct opponent, the fat-side winger and a defensive-running midfielder, getting goal-side. Krakouer kicked it over his head and he soccered it home from 15 metres out, bringing the house down. Melbourne v Collingwood, Round 21 2022 Kicked the first goal in the last quarter of the late season clash, trapping Jack Viney in a holding the ball tackle. His ensuing goal trimmed the margin to a point and laid the foundation for a trademark Pies finish. Laid an inside 50 tackle later in the quarter which led to a goal and he had several involvements in the last two minutes which allowed the Magpies to get stoppage after stoppage in their forward 50 and deny the Dees an opportunity to steal it late. Adelaide v Collingwood, Round 12 2021 Jamie Elliott had the hot hand for a memorable Collingwood win at the Adelaide Oval. Elliott kicked six of the Pies' 12 goals in a five-point win including the only major his side kicked in the last quarter. Adelaide was all over Collingwood for much of the match and looked certainties to overturn an 11-point three-quarter-time deficit. After conceding the lead, the Pies defended with tenacity, and Elliott took a running bounce and finished from outside 50, leading to the last lead change of the match early in stoppage time. Collingwood vs Hawthorn, Round 8 2026 Kicked two of Collingwood's three last quarter goals against a premiership contender. A strange night of football characterised by Hawthorn's inaccuracy and Collingwood's sensational conversion inside 50, Elliott contended with significant angle with both of his set shots and split the middle on both occasions. Elliott had been a relative non-factor until three-quarter time before coming to life to help the Magpies nab two points despite losing inside 50s by 28. Carlton v Collingwood, Round 6 2026 The match will be remembered by Pies fans as the day Nick Daicos put the team on his back and won them the game in a milestone outing, but Elliott, too lifted. After a quiet start to 2026, he was more prominent early in the game, but was spraying his kicks and lacked his usual polish, before flicking a switch at three-quarter time and seizing two crucial last quarter moments. Got a handball receive from Nick Daicos 50 metres out from goal and finished truly, and kicked a set shot from 40 metres out on a 45-degree angle to help the Magpies run over the top of Carlton. Against a side so psychologically damaged late in games, he proved the importance of composure and confidence. Fremantle v Collingwood, Round 9 2025 Jamie Elliott willed Collingwood over the line at Optus Stadium, kicking three goals in the last quarter and six for the match. He kicked two goals from outside 50 straight out of the blocks after the last change, getting separation on the lead and launching a pair of set shots from range to change the momentum of the game. Fremantle finished the third quarter strongly and trailed by just 15 points, before those goals put the margin out to 27. Just when the Dockers got the margin back to the 15-point three-quarter-time gap, Elliott floated in from the side to take a contested mark, finished the goal and sealed the game. Brisbane v Collingwood, Round 3 2024 The grand final rematch on Brisbane's home turf. Collingwood led the Lions by 20 points at the last change, but the Lions kicked three of the first four goals of the last quarter to close to within nine. Enter Jamie Elliott, who kicked a pair of clutch majors inside two minutes of game time. First he crunched Dayne Zorko in a tackle, won a holding-the-ball free kick and converted the set shot from just inside 50. Then from the Pies' next foray forward, he used his speed to get separation on the lead, and ran around from 40 metres out to convert a checkside. His goals put the game out of reach for the Lions and consigned them to a 0-3 start. Port Adelaide v Collingwood, Round 19 2023 Jamie Elliott kicked the last two goals, both resulting in lead changes, of the Pies' tense victory over Port Adelaide. Marked right on the boundary line 40 metres out in his favoured left pocket in front of direct opponent and composed himself with less than four minutes to go. He ran around to give his kick extra leverage and split the middle after earlier finishing a routine snap around the body from close range. Carlton v Collingwood, Round 23 2022 One of the most significant moments in the history of one of the sport's most storied rivalries. With less than two minutes to go, Elliott gathered a groundball outside 50, took a bounce and converted from 30 in front of a full MCG to give Collingwood the lead. It was the last round of the home and away season, with that kick locking Collingwood into the top four, and resulting in the Blues missing finals despite having sat inside the top eight for every round of the season to that point. Collingwood v Essendon, Round 19 2022 Arguably the most iconic moment of Elliott's career. Everyone has seen the play. Collingwood needed the perfect end-to-end transition from a kickout and veteran Scott Pendlebury found Darcy Moore, who linked up with Trent Bianco. Bianco kicked it perfectly to Elliott's advantage in a one-on-two marking contest, with Elliott marking, composing himself and finishing truly from where the 50-metre arc meets the boundary to break the hearts of the Pies' famous rivals. The main nicknamed Billy delivered in the week the club was commemorating the life of 212-game club great Billy Picken.
