Is it the heart or the height that makes a football player? That question has haunted some players careers on their way to proving everyone around them wrong, despite the genetic cards they were dealt in life.

But what if you were to line up all of the great small players to ever play the game and rank them among themselves as if they were matching up against one another in the same weight class?

Here's my ranking of some of the short kings to grace the game. Note that I'm classifying them as small based on being listed as 175cm or smaller.

Honorable mentions go to North Melbourne premiership player Barry Cable and West Coast All-Australian Phillip Matera.

9Dayne Zorko (175 cm)

Best 22: Mature-age recruits
Dayne Zorko during the round 10 AFL match between the Brisbane Lions and the Sydney Swans at The Gabba on May 26, 2018 in Brisbane, Australia.

Brisbane couldn't have won two premierships without the support that the Lions defender brought to their backline. One of the most spearing kicks I've ever seen, Zorko has gained a reputation as a ‘grubby' player, but his accolades and career stats speak for themselves. Five best and fairest medals, along with two All-Australian selections and two seasons where he led Brisbane in goal-scoring, make it hard to go past the ‘Zorpedo' when making this list.
