Port Melbourne's Roy George has been subjected to racist commentary online, following his headbutt in the dying embers of the Borough's win over the Brisbane Lions in the VFL on Sunday.
The crux of the statement read:
"We are calling out the recent comments on social media regarding an incident on the weekend that do not align with any of our values, where there was no respect shown to individuals and the wider First Nations peoples, and zero bravery hiding behind false accounts from a keyboard.
"We will continue to show unity in support of our players, and bravery to call out poor behaviour."
George, an Indigenous player, is still awaiting the VFL's sanction for the act, which occurred in the middle of the melee that characterised the final moments of the Borough's big win.

The victory handed the Borough their second win from five matches, while the Lions sit at 2-2 after four matches. Port Melbourne's Josh Tovey starred in the victory, kicking five majors. George registered four score involvements from his 15 disposals, but otherwise, used the ball poorly, registering a disposal efficiency of just 53 per cent.
