Collingwood has rested a pair of players for its clash against Hawthorn on Thursday night.

Defender Jeremy Howe and forward Beau McCreery join Scott Pendlebury and the hamstrung Tim Membrey on the sidelines.

Howe has been managed, while McCreery is missing with general soreness off a five-day break.

Howe's absence means Collingwood's defence will again be weakened, despite the return of skipper Darcy Moore.

Ned Long has been recalled to the side as a like-for-like replacement for Scott Pendlebury after being rested for Anzac Day, medium defender Wil Parker provides backline reinforcement, while recruit Jack Buller has earned a recall for Membrey.

It comes off the back of a five-goal performance in the VFL and sustained promise at state league level since being omitted from Collingwood's line-up following the first fortnight of the season.

Hawthorn, meanwhile, have made just the two changes, with skipper James Sicily and forward Dylan Moore returning from suspension for Harry Morrison and Jack Dalton.

The Hawks are 6-1 with Collingwood coach Craig McRae labelling them the best team in the competition at his press conference on Tuesday, with the Pies 4-3 ahead of a tough three weeks, which also includes clashes against Sydney and Geelong.

The Pies and Hawks split their games against each other last year.
