The AFL has today granted North Melbourne with a unique draft assistance bundle after they requested assistance earlier in the year.

As first reported by The Age, North Melbourne will receive a 2023 second-round pick and a 2023 third-round pick that must be traded to other clubs in exchange for at least one player.

The package is aimed to make North Melbourne return to their status as a routine on-field threat sooner rather than later.

The AFL has also waived the rules for the rookie list on North Melbourne so that they can add an extra two rookies to their list - aimed to keep young players around whilst also attracting more mature-aged talent.

The picks must be used in this year's trade period or they will become non-existent.

This way, clubs will not be unfairly penalised in the draft, as they were with Gold Coast compensation picks back in 2019. North's draft picks will not be stacked up.

It seems likely that North Melbourne will use these picks to lure Fremantle's Griffin Logue to the club, who requested a trade from Fremantle to a Victorian club last week.

North Melbourne currently holds picks 1, 55, 66 and 73 in this year's National AFL Draft.
