North Melbourne coaching candidate Nathan Buckley says he'll return to Geelong in 2027 if he misses out on the top role at Arden Street.
Buckley has shown his desire to return to the senior coaching caper, having been a part of the processes at Melbourne last year and then Tasmania.
The Collingwood icon confirmed his intention to be included in the Kangaroos' process over the weekend.
North Melbourne sacked Alastair Clarkson earlier this month.
“I'll have to find out in conversations as we go forward,” Buckley said on Fox Footy on Monday night.
“But I really respect the way North have handled this, and they've kept things really tight.
“I think they haven't spoken out of turn, and I want to fall into line with that a little.
“I think nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've determined 12 months ago that I'd love to senior coach again. I love the role at Geelong, and right now I will be at Geelong in 2027.
“But I still think there's another go round as a senior coach, and I've got a fair bit to offer.”
Multiple suggestions have indicated North Melbourne is gunning for an untried coach, which puts the likes of Jaymie Graham, Daniel Giansiracusa and Corey Enright on deck.
Kangaroos greats Adam Simpson and John Longmire withdrew from the opportunity, leaving most to believe the club was keen on a youngster, which Buckley says hasn't been put to him.
“That hasn't been anything that's been indicated to me. I had the chat earlier last week and was asked to present (to the coach panel), and I'm of the mind to do that,” he said.
Buckley noted one Kangaroos midfielder who he adores for the way he plays, but also understood the excitement surrounding the list, and what's been built over the last few years under Clarkson.
"I don't think it's hard to fall in love with George Wardlaw," Buckley said.
"I suppose they're the young players you get to work with, and you feel like you can impact positively.
"And that's the opportunity you're looking for in these senior roles."
