Carlton missed out on both Tom Papley and Jack Martin in the trade period and now Martin's future will likely be decided by the draft.

By entering he could potentially be picked up a different team with Carlton having pick three in the Pre-Season Draft.

Butย SEN Breakfast's Sam Edmund doesn't think the teams with picks one and two, Gold Coast and Melbourne, will take him.

"No (Melbourne) wonโ€™t (swoop on Martin)," Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

"The homework has been done. That means this was always raised as a possibility by Jack and his management.

"Theyโ€™ve gone through the process. They know Melbourne canโ€™t afford him.

"The deal is around $700,000 per season. They know that Melbourne canโ€™t afford that. They know even potentially the Suns canโ€™t afford that, on top of the fact that drafting a player who is desperate to get out of your club is lunacy and he still wants to get to Carlton.

"I think itโ€™s going to happen. Theyโ€™re going to get him for nothing."

Garry Lyon urged Carlton supporters to see that they haven't come off that badly.

"I understand they thought they were going to get Tom Papley and thought they were going to get Martin and therefore Silvagni hasnโ€™t done a good job," Lyon said.

"They are going into a season with Charlie Curnow, with Harry McKay, with Patrick Cripps, with Zac Fisher, Sam Walsh. They are in good nick. They have put a good list together. Sam Docherty comes back."
