Melbourne superstar Kysaiah Pickett had a night to forget at the MCG after a dour performance against Carlton in the second Wildcard Final.
After a stellar season, capped off by a second All-Australian blazer, Pickett was given a tag by Carlton midfielder Cooper Lord on Saturday night.
Pickett was still able to find the football and finished with 19 disposals, but his efficiency was far off what is to be expected from the star Demon.
The 25-year-old went at 32 per cent efficiency for the match, while Pickett also kicked three behinds and sprayed other snaps at goal.
Speaking after the defeat, Melbourne coach Steven King said Pickett's inaccuracy was symbolic of the Demons' efforts.
"(Pickett's missed opportunities) probably sums up our night a little bit," King said.
"You get off to a start where a couple of those go through (and the result could have been different). That was a bit symbolic of the game, a bit frustrating early. We had some momentum and we weren't able to really punish them and put that ascendancy on the scoreboard.
"And even late, not just 'Kozzy', but there were a few opportunities. We just didn't take our chances which we needed to do in finals, obvi."
Melbourne's accuracy was a consistent struggle after the first quarter. The demons kicked four goals straight to start the match before kicking 3.13 for the rest of the match.
