Collingwood star Jordan De Goey could be in hot water for an apparent high bump on Elijah Hewett during Saturday afternoon's victory over the West Coast Eagles.
The bump, which came late in the first quarter, saw Hewett handball the football away on the edge of the 50 before being taken late and high by De Goey with direct shoulder contact.
Hewett left the game with a concussion, but McRae said he De Goey was a first player, and that he wasn't sure if he was concerned by the incident.
"I'm not sure about concerned, but it is what it is," McRae said.
"I'm sure we will have a look at the footage of it and it'll be determined to be whatever it is. We will just deal with it.
"I hope the young lad is okay. That's where our concern goes to.
"Jordie is a fair player and the rules will be the rules."
McRae said De Goey's history would prove he is a fair player.
"He's a great kid Jordie. You can see parts of the game that knowing Jordie that he was just trying to, not go back in time, but make us better in the time that he is out there," McRae said.
"I don't know how he is emotionally but he is a fair player and I think history will show that."
The Collingwood coach said a trio of returning players would help in replacing De Goey next weekend if he is suspended by the match review officer and tribunal, with a verdict to be handed down on Sunday afternoon.
All of Jamie Elliott, Patrick Lipinski and Daniel McStay are due back for Monday's enormous Kings Birthday clash against the Melbourne Demons.
"You take one of your better players out of anyone's team if he is suspended then there is a cost, but we are fortunate. We have players coming back," McRae said on replacing the potentially suspended De Goey.
"We are in a position where we had a lot of injuries at the start of the year and now we don't have as many. Jamie Elliott, Patty Lipinski and Daniel McStay are all available next week, and we may need all of them. We will wait and see how we get through this game."
West Coast veteran Dom Sheed believes De Goey should be out of the game for a lot longer than a single week though, suggesting a "month or two" would be the appropriate suspension length.
"I heard it was pretty bad and the boys didn't respond the way we should have when that happened, but I think watching it back now, he deserves a good month or two on the sidelines," Dom Sheed said on 6PR Radio post-game.
