Greater Western Sydney’s Stephen Coniglio continued his superb form in his side's round six clash against Sydney on Saturday. The 25-year-old stepped up as captain this week and did not disappoint.

Coniglio stunned spectators with an enormous four goals, 24 disposals and five clearances, and if that isn’t enough, he did all this with a dislocated finger. Coniglio's value continues to rise game after game, as he emerges as a brilliant player and this year’s marquee free agent.

Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon believes this star midfield is one of the top 10 players in the competition.

“He looks to me to be one of those heart and soul blokes who you build footy clubs around,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“He also just happens to be, right now, in the best five-to-10 players in the competition.

“I picked him to win the Brownlow at the start of the year because he runs both ways, he’s an accountable midfielder that can then find the footy and on the weekend kicked goals.

“I think he’s a magical player. They, and other clubs, will move heaven and earth to try and get him.”

Coniglio dislocated his finger during the GWS Sydney derby, with GWS coach Leon Cameron still unsure about the severity of Coniglio’s finger injury.

"Coniglio was really brave to play on, we don't know how bad it is," Cameron said post-game.

"He's hard and he's tough. For him to hit the scoreboard and play good midfield time, under the duress he was carrying, it just speaks volumes about who he is."

If Coniglio is deemed fit to play this week he will come up against St Kilda, with both sides currently sitting 3-3 as they enter round seven.
