Luckless West Coast defender Mitch Brown has suffered yet another injury setback, with the club ruling him out for at least eight weeks after finger surgery.

Brown ruptured a tendon in his middle finger of his left hand during the Eagles' NAB Challenge match against the Suns on Thursday.

The 27-year-old missed the entire 2015 season due to a serious knee injury.

The news is better for teammate Chris Masten, who looks set to return earlier than initially expected from an ankle injury.

Masten was set for an eight to 10-week lay off, but now looks set to return to football in around six weeks.

New recruit Lewis Jetta is also making solid progress after suffering a calf strain against the Gold Coast on the weekend and is expected to be fit for round one.
