Geelong young gun Nina Morrison is set to miss her side's Round 4 trip to Maroochydore to face the Lions after suffering a calf injury at training.

The 21-year-old has endured a luckless run with setbacks since joining the Cats as Pick 1 in 2018, suffering two ACL injuries that have limited her exposure in the AFLW.

The promising midfielder hasn't been a common feature for Dan Lowther's side this season either, missing the club's Round 2 clash with the Blues due to the league's health and safety protocols.

Morrison suffered a niggle late into Geelong's loss to Collingwood last Friday, and has now been ruled out of this weekend's action after suffering a further setback during a training session on Wednesday.

Given Morrison's history injury history, the club has taken a conservative approach following the emergence of the calf complaint.

“It’s not a long-term one; it’s just a bit of awareness,” Lowther said, via K Rock

“She trained for the first part, and it felt a bit heavy.

“It was like, ‘it’s not worth it, mate. You’ve had two years off, and we want to give you a week off rather than miss six weeks’.”

Morrison's absence will be greatly felt within the Cats' midfield ensemble, who have shown great improvement on last year with the addition of top draft selection Georgie Prespakis.

Geelong remain winless from their opening three games despite their evident growth and will enter their clash with Brisbane unfavoured.

The Cats will confirm their side on Friday night, with Lowther having confirmed that Chloe Scheer will return after being managed against Collingwood.
