The Brisbane Lions are adamant that star midfielder Dayne Beams will be at the club in 2019.

Reports surfaced this week that Beams could be looking to move back to Victoria but Lions CEO Greg Swann says those rumours are completely false.

Swann contacted Beams, Beams’ manager Paul Connors and Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro, who all said as far as they know, the 28-year-old is staying at Brisbane.

“I actually rang Beamsy just for the record and asked him ‘Are you settled?’ and he said he wasn't going anywhere,’’ Swann told The Herald Sun.

“How can I say this nicely … he strongly refuted it. That’s all I wanted to know … it’s rubbish.’’

The Lions chief executive then contacted Dodoro.

“He said, ‘Mate, are you serious? We haven’t spoken to him’”, Swann recounted.

He then rang Connors.

“I asked him if any club had rung him about Beams and he said nobody.’’

Swann then spoke to Beams who said “it’s rubbish and as a matter of fact I’ll ring Paul to tell him to tell the media bloke to pull his head in”.

The rumour was originally reported on Monday night on Channel Seven’s Talking Footy and was followed up on social media.

“It was raised twice,’’ Swann said.

“The first time we didn’t bother with it and the next time it had a bit more detail about Essendon, so I thought I’d round this up and tie it in a nice little bow.

“It always comes in the bye weekend when there’s not a lot to talk about.

“You can set your clock by it.”

Beams has been in terrific form this season but had to relinquish captaincy of the Lions to focus more on mental health and grief issues but Swann says he is doing well.

“He’s going all right, his wife is due Monday week I think, so yeah he’s going all right.”
