Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has been revealed as the latest player in the 2024 Carlton Draft.

The initiative, which secures the services of six legendary players to play a single game at grassroots level, is now in its third year.

Former Richmond great Trent Cotchin and Hawthorn premiership player Isaac Smith were revealed as the first players in this year's draft last week.

Past instalments have allowed the likes Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, David Mundy, Brendon Goddard and Eddie Betts, among others, to pull the boots back on in a bid to help give back to local clubs.

The now 45-year-old, who made his AFL debut back in 1995, played 270 games all for the Bombers until his retirement at the end of the 2009 season.

During that time, he kicked 926 goals and will go down as one of the greatest forwards to ever play the game. Throughout a glittering career, he won the Coleman Medal in 2000, 2001, and 2003.

He was also Essendon's leading goal-kicker on 12 occasions, including each of the final three seasons of his career.

He was selected to the All-Australian team five times and was a premiership player for Essendon in 2000. He also won the Goal of the Year in 2007 and the Mark of the Year in 2008.

Lloyd was Essendon's captain during the final four years of his career and is now part of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
