St Kilda free agent Dan McKenzie is reportedly on the radar of the Gold Coast Suns, with his future at Moorabbin still unsettled despite the opening of the exchange window.
McKenzie, who recently concluded his ninth season with the Saints, is yet to extend his tenure with the club following a year-long stint on the sidelines.
The 27-year-old managed just two appearances at VFL level in the middle of the year, returning from a pre-season calf issue that would again force the wingman out of action for the remainder of the season.
McKenzie is venturing overseas for further medical treatment amid his injury battle, with a decision on his future from the Saints potentially not coming until his return.
The outside midfielder is eligible as an unrestricted free agent however, and could walk to a second club before Friday's signing deadline.
According to AFL.com.au, the Suns are showing an interest in McKenzie as they look to work through a busy off-season where most of their moves will involve players leaving the club.
Wingman Elijah Hollands is among the handful of Suns players that could depart over the next eight days, with McKenzie potentially a replacement option for Gold Coast to consider if their former top 10 pick returns to his home state of Victoria, likely via a move to Carlton.
The Suns could wait to see if McKenzie is available via delisted free agency - which will open in November - given the hampered Saints midfielder wasn't among the four players to be re-signed on Monday.
St Kilda list manager Stephen Silvagni said McKenzie has been left to tread water as the Saints work through other list moves over the coming week.
"It's a work in progress with him," Silvagni said of McKenzie when questioned by Zero Hanger.Â
"He's actually heading off overseas to get some specialist advice on one of his injuries. So we'll wait and see what happens here."
Tom Campbell, Hunter Clark and Thomas Highmore are among the remaining St Kilda players still unsigned for 2024 alongside McKenzie.
The Saints are set to lose Jade Gresham to Essendon via free agency this week, while defender Nick Coffield is seeking a move to the Western Bulldogs.
Silvagni is looking to bring in Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow during the trade period, as well as Fremantle winger Liam Henry.
