Geelong defender Tom Stewart looks set to take his place in the Cats' side to take on Adelaide in the preliminary final on Friday night after being cleared of serious injury.

Stewart sat out the final term of the Cats' 59-point win over Sydney on Friday with hamstring tightness.

However, scan have cleared the first year player of any serious damage, but will undergo a fitness test later in the week.

"The 24-year-old will be tested later this week before Friday night’s preliminary final in Adelaide," Geelong said in a statement on Sunday.

Stewart has been a revelation in defence this season for the Cats, playing 20 games and averaging 15 disposals after being recruited with pick No.40 in last year's National Draft following an impressive season with the club's VFL side where he finished second in the best and fairest.
