Fremantle's defence has been consistently among the league's best in the past few seasons, but in 2026, the Dockers' attack is coming to the fore.

The likes of Josh Treacy (28 goals), Jye Amiss (30), Patrick Voss (20), Isaiah Dudley (16), Shai Bolton (13), Michael Frederick and Murphy Reid haven proven themselves as a deadly combination in attack.

With Fremantle sitting pretty on top of the ladder, Western Australian sports journalist Digby Beacham said on Zero Hanger's The Outer Wing that he believes a key Freo tall could be on track for a breakout year.

"Jye Amiss was one we touched on wasn't he, was he doing enough?" Beacham said.

"He has kicked 30 goals, he is equal fifth with Nick Watson in the Coleman Medal leaderboard. Josh Treacy's kicked 28 and I think if you were to say Josh Treacy was an All-Australian right now most people would agree with you.

"Who knows? Jye Amiss might win the Coleman Medal."

Another breakout key in Western Australia is West Coast's Reuben Ginbey who is earning a reputation as one of the best defenders and one-on-one players in the league.

What will boost the Ginbey's ability and the Eagles as a whole is two-time premiership player Brandon Starcevich finally being fit to play.

Having arrived at the club during the off-season from Brisbane, Beacham believes the Perth native will only strengthen the Eagles' rebirth.

"West Coast has invested a lot of money over a long period for Brandon at the back end of last year," he said.

"That deal was made a long way out. He has had some issues with his body, not so much with the concussions, but more so the soft tissue injuries, but he got through managed minutes on the weekend here in the WAFL.

"He is going to be really important in the back half of the season for West Coast because you know what you are going to get from Brandon Starcevich. An ultra professional, a level of reliability and dependability, leadership.

"For a side that has lacked a little bit of leadership, Brandon Starcevich is going to be absolute gold."
