Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell's United States holiday has been turbulent, to say the least.
Most notably, the former Hawks skipper suffered from pneumonia whilst in New York over the Christmas break period.
Since returning home to Melbourne, Mitchell has stated that he's on the mend and will reportedly return to coaching in the next week.
Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund provided another twist in the tale regarding Mitchell's holiday.
“We can tell you that this trip got worse before he returned home to Melbourne as well," said Edmund
“Aside from spending seven nights either side of Christmas Day in hospital in New York with pneumonia which was disastrous… but after leaving New York, the family were in Los Angeles and we can tell you that unbelievably, the Mitchell family had some luggage stolen, what police say might have been a suspected carefully planned robbery, almost a targeted burglary."
Mitchell had some electronics stolen along with his and his family members' passports. Thankfully, the police were able to recover the items before the family was due to board their flight.
Ironically, due to the family's flight being delayed, it allowed enough time for the stolen items to be returned safely.
After a rather stressful post-season break for the Hawks coach, Mitchell will be looking to take his side to the next level and move up the ladder in 2024. With a solid young core and the acquisition of a few key players in the trade period, the Hawks seem primed to leap forward under the young coach's tutelage.
