He spent much of the year in the shadow of his Claremont teammate Heath Mellody, but George Gale established himself as a potential late first-round pick.
The West Australian co-captain earned inside and outside midfield opportunities this year, with his size and kicking penetration among the key strengths he brought to every level he played.
Perhaps the most noteworthy element of his year was his ability to perform strongly for every team he represented. After starting the year strongly in the WAFL Colts, he was a barometer for Western Australia, finishing in the top five of the Larke Medal and then looking comfortable against senior bodies at WAFL League level.
It followed a promising bottom-aged year where he got an opportunity at the National Championships as purely an outside player. Putting on size this year has helped him hold his own in the contest with his physicality, and his deceptively imposing frame has also stood out.
Gale's running power and marking ability also suit his wing position, and he models his game on fellow West Australian Dan Curtin, among others, and hopes to follow a similar career trajectory, starting on the outside with the capacity to move into the middle.

Key Quote
"I've put on quite a lot of size this year, which has been a helping factor. I'm stronger, quicker and more powerful, which has given me more confidence to compete." - George Gale
