GWS midfielder Tom Green has been cleared of any serious ankle injury following an incident in Saturday's loss to Sydney at the SCG.

Green's left ankle was inadvertently caught underneath Hayden McLean whilst he was tackling Finn Callaghan during the second quarter.

Fears went into the Giants camp that it could've been a lengthy sideline stint but scans subsequently reassured the club that the 23-year-old can surprisingly be available for Round 9.

Green will be put through fitness tests ahead of their clash with Essendon on Saturday in the hope he'll be right to go.

If the 75-gamer is declared unavailable, GWS are expecting vice-captain Stephen Coniglio to come in and take his place.

Coniglio has been absent for the past three weeks tending to a medial cruciate ligament (MCL) injury that he sustained against St Kilda in Round 5.

Adam Kingsley's men suffered their second loss in three weeks following a drop in form over the past month.

After rushing out to a 5-0 start to the year, the Giants have been downed by Carlton and recently the Swans.

A mouth-watering encounter is set to descend on Saturday at Marvel Stadium when the Bombers host GWS in the twilight fixture.
