The GWS Giants have reached an agreement with 22-year-old key forward Max Gruzewski, tying their exciting prospect to the club until the end of 2028.
Gruzewski's extension puts to bed months of speculation around his future and subsequently adds intrigue to the future of former Coleman Medallist, Jesse Hogan, who in recent times has been linked with a move to a fourth AFL club.
Hogan, already done for the season with a finger injury, has been the subject of contract and trade speculation for much of the year. With players like Gruzewski and Aaron Cadman putting their best foot forward in hopes of usurping the 2024 Coleman Medallist, and the Giants failing to put forward a figure deemed appropriate by Hogan's camp, speculation will continue to swirl as to where the 31-year-old will play moving forward.
Max Gruzewski, with his 192cm frame, detailed his comfort in the Giants' environment when speaking to Zero Hanger last month.
"I love the Giants. I love the boys. I've got great relationships," he said.
GWS footy boss Jason McCartney is pleased with the club's ability to retain the Oakleigh Chargers product.
“It's really exciting to be able to announce a new two-year deal for Max,” McCartney said.
“He's already showing that he can be a valuable contributor as a 22-year-old key forward, but the exciting thing is we still see a lot of growth left in his game.
“We have some really promising young pieces, particularly in our forward line, and it's great to have secured Max's signature as we continue to prepare for what we feel is going to be a really successful period for the club.”

Gruzewski has seen expanded opportunity this season, due to the spate of injuries afflicting the expansion club. He shapes as a critical piece of the club's forward line of the future, alongside Phoenix Gothard, Josaia Delana, Aaron Cadman, Darcy Jones, and co.
