Collingwood big man Brodie Grundy is looking to find more time up forward for the Magpies this season as he works toward adding goal kicking to his ever-growing arsenal.

The Magpies forward lineup has experienced somewhat of a shake up this pre-season, with Darcy Moore making the move to the defensive end of the field and Mason Cox showing promise up forward throughout the JLT Community Series, Grundy is also looking to make a change in his game.

The 203cm ruckman said he had been fine-tuning his craft during the pre-season, spending more time on goal kicking as he looks to have a bigger impact offensively for the Magpies in 2018.

He is expected to start in the ruck for the Magpies in their season opener on Saturday night against Hawthorn, but he says he is "always looking to add strengths" to his game.

"I trained a little bit more forward, but my 'one wood' is still my ruck work and I'll be looking to continuing to add strings to my bow this year in that position and really help drive the midfield going forward," Grundy told afl.com.au.

Grundy also expects that with the improved performance of Cox up forward, the two ruckman will swap their forward roles week-to-week depending on the teams needs.

"I suppose the ruck percentage will be horses for courses, Mason has been showing some really good signs forward … I suppose it will be whoever is playing and suited each week, it will chop and change," Grundy said.

"For me, I need to be able to go forward and show a little bit and take a few grabs and kick some goals."

Grundy will get his chance to show off his hard work this Saturday in Collingwood's season-opener against Hawthorn at the MCG.
