Young Giants midfielder Jacob Hopper has signed a two-year contract extension to remain at the club, locking him away until the end of season 2021.

Through four games so far this season, the 22-year-old has held his own within the Giants' midfield averaging 27 disposals, four marks and six clearances per game.

Having carved his path to the league through the Giants Academy program, Hopper has played 48 matches since he debuted in 2016.

Securing the signatures of their young stars is key for the club, and Giants List Manager Jason McCartney is delighted to have Hopper for a further two years.

"Jacob is a born and bred GIANT having come all the way through our Academy pathway," McCartney told the club's website.

"He's an impressive young man on an off the field and we're excited he's committed to remaining a Giant.

"The way he's stepped up this season has been fantastic and no doubt he'll have an important role to play for our club as the season progresses."

Hopper was drafted inside the top 10 at the 2015 National Draft as a GWS Academy selection. In just his first game, Hopper became an issue for opposition coaches as he collected 32 disposals, 17 contested possessions and nine clearances.

The young star already has finals experience behind him, and with injuries surrounding the club, he has become an integral part of the club moving forward.

"I'm just super stoked to be part of something really special," Hopper said.

"I think we've got a really special, unique, close group and I've got a lot of love for the boys here and the whole club so in the end it was a really easy decision to recommit."

The Giants play their first match in Canberra this weekend, up against Fremantle at UNSW Canberra Oval this Saturday.
