Geelong Cats young gun Max Holmes has confirmed his aspiration to remain at the club beyond the end of his current contract.

Holmes is, as it stands, off-contract at the end of 2024.

The midfielder and forward, who isn't yet 22 years of age, was taken in the 2020 AFL draft and said that, while he is leaving it to his management to sort the details, he wants to stay at the club.

“Yeah, yeah, definitely. Yeah, yeah, yeah," Holmes told reporters on Monday at training.

“We've just got to sort it out, I guess.

“It's up to ‘Mack' (Geelong football boss Andrew Mackie) and my manager to sort it out.

“Then, when they're happy with it, I'll be happy with it, I guess.

“I don't really know much about what's going on; I just let my manager take the reins and I stick to playing footy, and I'm happy with that.

“At this stage, I'm more worried about Round 1 than my contract.

“I'm still contracted for this year, so I'm just here to play footy, and I'll let my manager do the rest.”

Holmes, who is coming off a career-best year where he played 21 games and averaged 19.1 disposals per game, had 4.2 tackles per game and kicked 7 goals, is preparing for a season where he may play numerous different positions, admitting he is "getting thrown around a bit at the moment."

He spent most of his first three seasons in the AFL on the wing, with occasional midfield game time, but he also played half-back in the pre-season matches.

St Kilda open their season at home against Geelong.
