Amid reports outlining details of Channel Nine's revamped AFL Footy Show, former host Garry Lyon has spoken of his surprise at the show's reported new format, saying it should bear a different name.

According to a report published by the Herald Sun, the program is set to take on a different look in its 26th year, with Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehmann serving as host, and wheelchair tennis champion Dylan Alcott featuring prominently.

Brendan Fevola is the only 2018 panelist expected to remain with the show on a regular basis, with current AFL players also tipped to appear regularly.

With such drastic change set to take effect, the former Melbourne captain, who hosted the show for a number of years, says the new-look program should move away from the Footy Show name and branding.

"I would’ve thought they’d come up with something different for it," Lyon said on SEN Breakfast.

"Come up with a fresh name for it.

"It’s not the Footy Show.”

The AFL Footy Show has run on Channel Nine since 1994, but has seen its ratings decline in recent years.
