Former St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary has returned to his former club Eaglehawk for 2023.

Geary has signed with the Bendigo-based club along with his brother Kal just months after announcing his retirement from the AFL.

The 34-year-old called time on his career at Moorabbin after 207 games with the Saints, who he captained between 2017-2021.

After hanging up the boots in July, Geary will join Eaglehawk as an assistant coach, while a decision as to whether the veteran defender takes an on-field role remains to be seen.

"The EFNC is excited to announce that both Jarryn and Kal Geary will be returning to the club for season 2023," a club statement reads.

"Jarryn has enjoyed an immensely successful career having been drafted by St Kilda in 2007, playing over 200 AFL games, and having the honour of captaining the Saints from 2017 to 2021.

"Jarryn will be an assistant coach to Trav Matheson and will bring an enormous amount of leadership to the club.

"Kal returns to Eaglehawk after a number of years away, where he has established himself as one of the very best players in the BFNL after spending time in the QAFL and also the VFL.

"To say that the club is thrilled that the boys have returned home is an understatement."

Eaglehawk finished seventh in the Bendigo Football League in 2022, recording nine wins and nine losses for the year.
