Retired Richmond premiership defender Nathan Broad could make a shock return to the AFL, with Fremantle looming as a potential destination for 2027.
Broad departed from the Tigers after 191 games and three flags, with a keen eye on moving to Western Australia.
The utility has been linked with West Coast in a potential coaching-playing role, as well as the relationships between Eagles coach Andrew McQualter, Jack Graham, Liam Baker and Tylar Young also existing at the club.
But a report via SEN has indicated the Dockers have been in contact with Broad over a potential pre-season supplemental selection, which has worked wonders for Justin Longmuir in recent years.
Broad alluded to sitting 2027 on the sidelines in his departing speech from the Tigers.
“I'm going to have a year off first and then just kind of figure it out from there,” Broad said in August ahead of his final matches in the yellow and black.
“I've always been a one-club player, I'm happy here, and I've got two more games left at the Tigers to see out. I'm going to put my best foot forward for the footy club and try to get two more wins for them, and then that'll be it.
“It's always been the plan to get home to Western Australia. I want to go back there and raise a family and enjoy some quieter times.”
Fellow Richmond premiership players Jayden Short and Nick Vlastuin's names keep popping up in trade conversations, with the Punt Road club considering one more assault on the draft before Tasmania's influence dominates the intake.
Short has been linked to Collingwood, but will require a trade given he holds a contract for next year.
Dion Prestia is another who left the Tigers, but is open to continuing to play, with GWS and Essendon looming as potential landing spots.
Prestia has a link to the Giants via coach Adam Kingsley, as the pair worked closely together at Richmond.
The Bombers are in need of experience and are looking to bolster their coaching staff under Mark McVeigh.
