1. The league is WIDE open

Adelaide, Richmond, and Geelong all went down on the weekend. These three sides were the front-runners of the competition, but now look to have weaknesses that other teams can exploit.

All but one side (Brisbane) has registered two wins, while six sides have won five games. On any given day, any side could knock off their opposition, which provides exciting, and must-watch football.

Hopefully, for the competition as a whole, it remains this wide open. As for all the tipsters out there, it could be a very tough year.

2. The tagย continues to gain momentum

It was presumed dead, but the tag is back, and is going from strength to strength. Conversations were raised when Levi Greenwood shut down Joel Selwood, and they've now roared on with Rory Sloane being nullified two weeks in a row.

Ex-Crow Bernie Vince had the task of tagging Sloane, and he did a fantastic job. The Adelaide superstar managed only 11 disposals, incredibly low by his lofty standards.

Surely teams are now beginning to understand just how effective tagging can be. Expect to see it more, and more as the season goes on.

3. His body might be on the decline, but Stevie Jย is still a magician

If anybody was going to kick that goal, it was going to be Steve Johnson. Under a minute to play, down by three points, and a long ball goes into the Giants' forward 50. Johnson read it off the pack, and ran into an open goal to seal the win for GWS.

Many have commented on Johnson's age and body, Mick Malthouse has evenย called for him to consider hisย retirement.ย However, he managed to prove his doubters wrong on the weekend, and provide another trademark Stevie J moment.

Billy Brownless did a terrific job summing up the goal on the 'Sunday Footy Show'.

4. Tigers supporters should definitely be back from the clouds now

It was a glorious first five weeks for Richmond, and their supporters were living on cloud nine. However, after three straight losses, there is no doubt they have come crashing back down to earth.

It's not to say Richmond won't do something special this year, or be a threat in the finals. But their side may not be as faultless as the Tiger faithful first thought. What made round eight worse, was they way that they went down.

Who knows what the rest of 2017 holds for the Richmond Football Club. For their sake, we hope it isn't more heartbreak. What we do know is that they are back with the pack, and will have a fight on their hands for a top four spot.

5. Joe Daniher has the potential to be very special

On the weekend, Bomber Joe Daniher was doing 'buddy-esque' things. He still has a long way to go to get toย Franklin's level, but has shown he has the capability to play a very similar role.

Daniher's five goal performance against Geelongย earned him best on ground honours.ย His ability to kick goals from almost anywhere on the ground can be simply breath-taking.

Yes he clearly needs to work on his set-shot goal-kicking, as well as his consistency. But after being heavily criticised only a few weeks ago, Daniher has showed us just how good he can be.
