Delisted North Melbourne midfielder Luke Urquhart has signed with WAFL club East Fremantle Sharks for the next two seasons.

Urquhart returns to the Western Australian state-league club after two years at the Kangaroos following his Pick 57 in the 2024 draft.

Despite strong form in the VFL across 21 games in the past two seasons, the 184cm on-baller was unable to crack into the AFL side.

He averaged 14.9 disposals, 3.2 marks and 4.1 tackles.

The Sharks released the following statement upon Urquhart's return home.

"The East Fremantle Sharks are pleased to welcome home Luke Urquhart for the 2027 and 28' seasons," the statement said.

"A tough inside midfielder for East Fremantle, Luke was the sole East Fremantle representative in the 2024 WA U18's squad.

"We look forward to having Luke bring his strengths to our midfield.

Urquhart joins the Sharks with former Tigers player Kaleb Smith, who made the move to Western Australia following his 2026 exit from Punt Road.

Smith was taken with Pick 49 in 2022 and played 12 games before he was delisted at the end of this year.

The former Richmond player signed a two-year deal with East Fremantle.

The pair will be coached by former Kangaroos player Liam Anthony.

The former Roo played 58 AFL games from 2009-14, after he was plucked out of the Sharks Colts program with Pick 43 in the 2008 National Draft.

The 39-year-old said he was overjoyed to return to the club and excited to guide the next school of Sharks through their development.

"East Fremantle has been a huge part of my life, so to return as senior coach is an incredible honour," Anthony said.

"I grew up supporting the Sharks, had the privilege of playing for the club and understand what it means to represent East Fremantle.

"My focus will be on building strong relationships, establishing clear standards and creating an environment where players and coaches can get the best out of themselves.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to build a successful, connected football program and can't wait to get started."
