Essendon is on the verge of locking away in-form duo Dylan Clarke and Mitch Brown, as the club's bolting form continues to increase hopes of finals football, as reported by The Herald Sun.

Clarke, the clubs newest run-with player, penned a one-year extension after signing for just the initial two-years, after the bullish onballer was able to 'tag out' some of the leagues best midfielders.

The 20-year-old has gotten the better of Ben Cunnington, Rory Sloane, Patrick Cripps and Jaeger O'Meara so far this season, but is keen to develop into an attacking midfielder at Windy Hill.

Clarke is likely to sign another one-year deal with the club, while talks are still within early stages.
