Former Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd has had his say on the Bombers leak about James Hird's meeting with the club this week.
The Essendon great and former coach was pipped by great mate Mark McVeigh but there remains scope for him to join the club, but Hird himself was among a chorus of voices critiquing the club after the meeting quickly became public knowledge.
Speaking on 3AW ahead of Fremantle's semi final against Geelong, Lloyd indicated frustration with the situation.
"I don't like seeing the way it's playing out. Because then he spoke after that and put a theory forward that maybe the club wants this out because maybe they don't want you but they put it out they tried," Lloyd said.
"I don't like hearing that because I know Mark McVeigh would like him in a role and I would like them to sort it out. You're either in or you're out.
"They picked their coach, so can they try and get on the same page and move forward as a football club."
Western Bulldogs midfield coach Brendon Lade and Sydney's Amon Buchanan are among the other assistants to have been linked to Essendon, which needs to replace David Rath, Ben Jacobs, Cam Roberts and Dan McPherson who have all departed following Brad Scott's sacking.
