GWS ruckman Matthew Flynn's free agency switch to West Coast has been confirmed, with the Giants securing Pick 40 as compensation.

An unrestricted free agent, Flynn has exercised his rights to land at his second club after 33 games in the orange and charcoal.

Flynn would wait six years on the Giants' list before earning a debut, and would start the 2023 season as the GWS' leading ruckman before a breakout campaign by Kieren Briggs.

With Briggs holding his place at the front of the selection pecking order, the Giants allowed Flynn to explore his options this off-season, with West Coast and Melbourne showing an interest.

The Eagles have won the race for the GWS Academy graduate, officially signing the 26-year-old on Friday evening.

The free agency acquisition has seen the Giants secure compensation for the loss of Flynn, with a late second-round selection falling their way at Pick 40.

Flynn becomes the second official free agent signing of 2023 following James Jordon's switch to the Swans earlier on Friday.

The free agency signing window will run for seven days, ending at 5:00pm (AEDT) on Friday, October 13.
