AFLPA president and Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield has claimed that despite the suspension handed to Toby Greene appearing light, the Giants' three-week sentence is adequate.

Greene was levelled with said ban after making contact with umpire Matt Stevic in last Saturday's Elimination Final between GWS and Sydney.

Although AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has since signaled that the league may push for an extension to the sentence, Dangerfield has stated that the tribunal had made the correct call on Tuesday morning.

"You can say [three matches] is lenient, but at this time of year you can argue it's quite significant," Dangerfield said on SEN.

"We have to be mindful, and I'll keep coming back to this, that we have a role to play in the community. It's difficult sometimes, under the heat."

The Moggs Creek man then explained that he and his fellow counterparts within the league needed to improve their demeanour towards the game's officiators.

"It's a fine line," Dangerfield continued.

"I'm as guilty as anyone around the off-hand comment, but they're such an important part of our game ... We have to be better with how we treat them."

Greene will miss an opportunity to face Dangerfield's Cats this weekend, when the pair's respective teams face off at Perth's Optus Stadium on Friday night.

The duo have tangled with one another within the space of the last month, with Greene serving a one-week ban for his raised elbow that collected the Brownlow medallist's throat in Round 21.

According to AAP, should the league decide to appeal the findings of Tuesday's marathon hearing, an announcement will be made by the close of business of Wednesday.

If the league proves successful in their challenge, Greene could miss the first five-weeks of the 2022 season.
