Adelaide is set to take Bryce Gibbs with the first pick of the rookie draft for administrative purposes, reports The Age’s Daniel Cherny.

Gibbs retired earlier this year despite having another season to run on his deal to put an end to his 268-game career.

The report states that the Crows will re-draft Gibbs onto their rookie list purely for salary cap purposes.

It isn’t the first time such a situation has unfolded, with Michael Voss and Kurt Tippet among those who retired but were kept on lists the following season for administrative reasons

Gibbs will become the first ever player to be drafted with Pick 1 in both the national and rookie drafts.

He will not play in the AFL in 2021, having signed with a SANFL club.

The utility crossed from the Blues to the Crows at the end of the 2017 season, but went on to make just 37 senior appearances at his second club.
